Casting magnesium alloys

VIAM developed 17 types of casting magnesium alloys and material-saving technologies for the production of castings for aerospace, electric-power, gaseous, machine-building and other branches of industry.


Reducer case

ML8, ML12, VML20 high-strength alloys with the strength of 260-300 MPa for highly loaded aircraft structures PS-90 and PS-12 engines, MI-8, MI-17, MI-28, MI-38, KA-60 helicopter reducers, gas and power plants.


Compressor case

ML10, ML19 heat-resistant alloys with the rupture stress of =70 MPa, =60 MPa, respectively, for the long-term service at 250-300°C in the engine-building industry.


Aggregate part

VML18 corrosion-resistant alloy with the increased service life for products, operating under the all-climatic conditions (σb=250-260 MPa).

The production technology of high-purity alloys with enhanced service characteristics was developed for carrying out the unique Mg casting into the sand-clayish and chill moulds.

The composition and production technology of nontoxic antiburning additives were developed for the antioxidation protection of Mg alloys during the sand casting. VIAM has the facilities for the experimental and commercial production of additives with the volume to 2 tons.
